What to expect?
Contact improvisation can echo one of the greatest pleasures in your life—joint creation through movement, touch, silence, gaze, sense of space, and listening. It is a dance that awakens openness to be subtle, gentle, sensitive, and at the same time bold, creative, and authentic in dance with another.
Contact improvisation is one of the few dance forms in which the entire surface of the body is used for dancing. Touch becomes essential when improvising with another person. It helps you listen to yourself and others and discover new possibilities for movement.
During the seminar, we will touch upon the basics of contact improvisation, such as weight transfer and changing points of contact. Through various exercises, we will explore how to stay connected with ourselves while moving in contact with another person. We will explore ways to see, perceive, create, and maintain constantly changing connections. The most important thing is a desire to experiment with curiosity; dance experience is not necessary.
The seminar will be led by Aistė Jančiūtė:
Since 2013, Aistė has been teaching contact improvisation classes, seminars, and jams. She actively participates in the creation and support of the CI community in Vilnius. She studied contact improvisation and performance art from experienced European and American teachers: Eckhard Müller (GER), Daniel Schwartz (ARG), Katie Duck (NL) / Alfredo Genovesi (UK), Angela Doniy (RU), Ray Chang (USA), Yaniv Mintz (IL), Anya Cloud (USA), Daniel Lepkoff (USA), and many others.
Aistė is also interested in various movement practices: yoga, active meditation, and contemporary dance. This year, she graduated from the Institute of Integrated Body Movement Therapy (Great Britain).
