Have you ever felt like you were stuck in space and in your own thoughts? Like you had set a trap for yourself that you couldn't escape? How do you feel in this trap? How can you free yourself from it?
This performance reveals the state of feeling stuck within yourself and your surroundings. The costume, consisting of a "second skin" cocoon with long strips of fabric extending from it, intertwines with the objects surrounding the performer, illustrating this physical and mental imprisonment. I explored this theme with my team, first by creating a dance film, which we later adapted for a live, site-specific performance.

Rita Lira is a Ukrainian dancer and choreographer. Born in Ukraine in 1996, she graduated from the Boris Grinchenko University of Kyiv with a degree in contemporary choreography. She draws inspiration for her work from contemporary art and urban dance styles such as hip-hop, house, and popping. She is also interested in documentary art.
From 2017 to 2019, she was a member of the G. Dance Theater team. Since 2019, Rita has been teaching contemporary and urban dance. In 2019-2020, she worked as a choreographer and director at Splash Theater-Studio, and in 2021-2022, she was a teacher at My Way Dance Centre. She is a member of the Ukrainian association Contemporary Dance Platform. In 2022, after being forced to leave Ukraine, she was accepted and supported by Val-de-Marne CDCN briqueterie. Thanks to the PAUSE emergency aid scheme of the Ministry of Culture, she spent a year in residence at the Cité internationale des arts. La briqueterie and the Cité internationale des arts are collaborating with Rita to create and present her performances Kelias iš/į (The Road From/To) and Spąstai (The Trap). The performance is based on C. G. Jung's ideas about the collective unconscious. Our actions in the present are determined by what happened in the past, and our behavior is a reflection of previous generations. Our connection with them is not limited to memory. The performance "Traces" is a visualization of dance, depicting the consequences of psychological trauma caused by historical tragedies. They show how our culture, relationships with people, and destiny can be defined by the past. However, it is worth remembering that these imprints can also be the key to changing the scenario of our future.

Tetiana Znamerovska is a performer, choreographer, and teacher. Born in Ukraine, she graduated from the Faculty of Choreography in Lviv in 2017 and the Faculty of Directing at the Kiev Drama Theater in 2022. Tetiana explores pressing social issues at the intersection of contemporary dance and physical theater, analyzing the theme of war through the art of movement. In addition, Tetiana explores various methods of dance and dance dramaturgy creation.
In 2018, she created her first performance, "Overboard," as part of the young choreographers' project "Artil." In 2022, she became a resident at the Pina Bausch Dance Theater in Wuppertal, which supported Ukrainian artists. The theater provided accommodation, rehearsal rooms, and organized training and masterclasses led by members of the ensemble. During her residency, she became an actress in Rainer Behr's performance VONA, which has been successfully touring the world.
In the same year, she created the short film Expectations in collaboration with Studio Wayne McGregor and the UK Contemporary Dance Platform. In 2023, Tetiana presented the dance performance Traces. After its premiere at the INSEL cinema in Germany, the performance was shown at the Pina Bausch Center as part of the Ukrainian dance platform and The Place project Let The Body Speak. She worked as a choreographer and director at Splash Theater-Studio in 2019-2020 and as a teacher at My Way Dance Centre in 2021-2022. She is a member of the All-Ukrainian Association Contemporary Dance Platform.
In 2022, forced to leave Ukraine, she was welcomed in residency and supported by la briqueterie CDCN of the Val-de-Marne. Thanks to the Ministry of Culture's PAUSE emergency reception scheme, she spent a year in residency at the Cité internationale des arts. La briqueterie and the Cité internationale des arts are working with her to create and present her shows The Way from/to and The Trap.
