Klaipėda Youth Theater: performance "Sea Lights" (directed by J. Tertelis)

19 March 2024 19:00

A city by the sea. This is where those who remain on shore live. This is where those who have been at sea return. From here, they set sail for the sea. Here, the constant movement of people and water creates crosswinds that blow through their heads and hearts. The feelings and thoughts freed by these winds scatter through the streets.

This performance is about a city by the river, split in half by the Dangė – a strip of sky that has descended to earth. Klaipėda is divided into old and new, employers and workers, those fighting for survival and those who have won without a fight. This performance is also about a city by the port, with its rumbling railways and clanking cranes.

About a city without historical memory and with one of the richest histories of urban life in Lithuania. About a city of jazz, theater, beauty salons, renovations, secret affairs, trials, memories, strange people, dancing bags, families, and many nations. About empty streets and descriptions of a city where there is no place for people.

This is a play about people who ended up here by chance or by choice. About those whose faces reveal that they are from Klaipėda, and those who came here for a short time and stayed.

Marine Lights is the third documentary performance by film and theater director Jonas Tertelis, in which the creator tells a subjective, emotional, and often painful story of urban communities.
