The Klaipėda International Cello Festival invites you to welcome the morning with music in the city's public spaces!

The free concert series "Traveling Cellos" brings the joy of live music back to unexpected places – from the market to the courtyards of the old town.

May 5 to 10, the International Klaipėda Cello Festival and the International Klaipėda David Geringas Cello Competition are returning to Klaipėda. This unique event will bring together more than 100 invited guests – musicians, actors, artists, and dancers – and more than 190 other performers: orchestras, choirs, and ensembles.

"It's more than just concerts – it's a real celebration of music that brings together the most talented performers, listeners, and a unique experience. With this festival, Klaipėda reminds the world that music has the power to unite, inspire, and create special moments, and the cello is the inspiration for these moments," says festival founder and cellist Mindaugas Bačkus.

The festival, which will take place in 2017, will feature performers from 20 countries, including Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan, Cuba, and others.

The event program will include 25 different locations where concerts, competitions, and art workshops will take place. During the 6-day festival, 6 concerts will be held every day in different locations around the city. Performers from more than 20 countries around the world will take to the stage, and over 100 cellists, including both young talents and recognized professionals, will compete to be the best," says Mindaugas Bačkus, artistic director of the cello festival.

Talented cellists will be evaluated by an international jury consisting of 14 experts.

"Klaipėda is becoming a true cultural crossroads, bringing together a wealth of talent from around the world. The festival and competition not only promote music of the highest caliber, but also encourage international cooperation and the dissemination of culture," says KKS director Tadas Grabys.
