The Klaipėda City Municipality, in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency and the Institute of Asian Transcultural Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of Vilnius University, invites you to a series of events for Traditional Turkish Arts Week in Klaipėda
.
Event date: May 18, 2026 (Monday)

Time: 1:00–3:00 p.m.
Location: Klaipėda Culture Factory (Bangų St. 5A, Klaipėda).

This group exhibition and creative workshop showcase the rich heritage of traditional Turkish arts, which took shape within the tradition of Islamic book art and was perfected within the context of Ottoman culture. The event will feature examples of traditional ebru, kat’i, and miniature art, revealing a world of subtle ornamentation, color, and handcrafted mastery.

During the creative workshops, participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at three unique art forms: ebru (Turkish paper marbling), kat’i (decorative paper cutting), and miniature painting. During the workshops, the basic materials, tools, and traditional techniques of these arts will be introduced. Step by step, participants will learn to create ornaments on the surface of water, compose cut-paper motifs, and color elements of classical miniatures. The sessions will provide an opportunity not only to learn about Turkish artistic traditions but also to experience the meticulous process of handcrafting firsthand.

The event will offer an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of traditional Turkish arts as an important part of cultural dialogue, historical heritage, and artistic identity.

The creative workshops will be led by experts in traditional Turkish arts:

  • Dr. Selda Kavas Afacan, Aydın Adnan Menderes University – “Solid Art”
  • Dr. Songül Ergün, Sakarya University – “The Art of Ebru”
  • Yasemin Tekin, Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts – “The Art of Miniature Painting”
