Taško Theater: Documentary performance "Home"
The smell of food cooked by my mother. My father's quiet snoring, which can still be heard throughout the house. My sister's endless chatter. The smell of clean laundry. My grandfather's radio playing loudly. My grandmother's stories as she flips through family photo albums. Funny birthday parties where there had to be cake and children's champagne. Snowballs stuck to my underwear. A hairbrush instead of a microphone for a living room concert. Mom's lipstick and necklaces…"
These are just a few of the memories that the word HOME evokes. We all feel and perceive home differently, but we all know that HOME is much more than just a place to live. It is a place where we feel safe, loved, and calm. But what
happens to those for whom home does not evoke such feelings? What happens to those who never find a home in their entire lives? And not a physical home, but an inner one, which sometimes takes a lifetime to build.
The play tells the story of three teenagers growing up in a children's home who will soon reach adulthood and have to move out to live independently. However, to everyone's surprise, a social worker announces that a newcomer will be moving in with them. The everyday scenes in the play are intertwined with the lives of people who have already left the children's home. This play is based on true stories from playwright Karolina Urbonė's work at a children's home.
This is a performance about the gift of natural love and the never-ending journey towards one's HOME.
