Klaipėda Youth Theater: Children’s Play “The Story of One Courtyard”

In the Klaipėda Youth Theater’s production for the whole family, *The Story of One Courtyard*, you’ll meet the mysterious, resourceful, and, without a doubt, hilarious characters—the Kiemūnai. Is this the first time you’ve heard of them? Of course! After all, the Kiemūnai are a secret race, and in the world outside the theater, we can neither see, feel, nor hear them. So who are the Kiemūnai?
The Kiemo Encyclopedia states:
Kiemūnai (Lithuanian for “yard animals”) are the invisible inhabitants of children’s playgrounds, whose sole purpose is to provide children playing in the yard with the best impressions and the most fun experiences. Kiemūnai are found all over the world, most often in yards of various types and sizes, as long as there are children living nearby.
Do you still feel like you’ve never encountered the “Kiemūnai”? Then just take a moment to think about what’s going on in the yard: kids swing faster than their fear allows, fall safely from heights higher than logic would permit, and, once they get bored with one game, immediately come up with another. We have the Kiemūnai to thank for these backyard joys! It’s only thanks to these invisible guardians of the playground that a child can safely, boldly, and—yes, quite dirtily—experience all the adventures the playground has to offer and learn to interact with other playground visitors.
The play *The Story of One Courtyard* offers the chance to see the mysterious and playful world of the Kiemūnai with your own eyes for the first time and makes you wonder: maybe it’s worth going outside more often and spending some time in the courtyard?
