Sheiko Dance Theater: Contact Improvisation Workshop

30 November 2024 11:00

Have you ever dreamed of moving freely, trusting your body and intuition? The contact improvisation workshop is an invitation to discover dance that allows you to be subtle, gentle, sensitive, and at the same time bold, creative, and authentic when dancing with another person.

Imagine yourself experiencing the quality of touch that requires nothing special to give or receive, a state where a smile arises naturally. Feel how your body becomes firmly supported by the earth and gravity becomes your ally. Experience the feeling of freedom when dancing with another person—these are simple things that, when looked at more deeply, can become extraordinary experiences.

Here you will be able to:
🔹 Gain a deep understanding of the subtleties of contact improvisation, regardless of your level of experience;
🔹 Explore different qualities of movement;
🔹 Experiment with improvisation and creativity;
🔹 Enjoy movement in pairs and in a group;
🔹 Focus on body sensations, awareness, and mutual connection.

Who is the workshop for:

Contact improvisation (CI) is a dance technique that was started in 1972 in the US by Steve Paxton's improvisational dance and performance group. Contact improvisation combines many movement practices, contemporary dance, martial arts (especially aikido and capoeira), acrobatic elements, etc., which help prepare the body for conscious and playful movement together.

Touch is one of the essential tools of contact improvisation, inviting exploration and discovery of new trajectories of movement. This form of dance helps to establish a better connection not only with one's own body, but also awakens curiosity to move, playfulness, and spontaneity. Free movement, touch, and nonverbal communication can bring unexpected insights about oneself, one's surroundings, or the world.
