AGNIJA GERMANĖ: “I paint in order to express my emotions about experiences and adventures, my feelings about nature through the language of shapes and colors, and sometimes simply my pure joy at being alive.
My research focuses on the nuanced representation of light and space, the flexibility and possibilities offered by oil paints, and the illusion of movement that can only be achieved through painting techniques.
The immense joy, opportunities for exploration, and challenges of painting are like breathing to me, part of the work I create, which I fill with my own energy.
The exhibition collection combines two themes – artistic figurative compositions and landscapes inspired by exploring the interaction between nature and humanity on an emotional and physical level. Some of the works were created while exploring peat extraction fields and bogs, as well as my beloved seaside forest.
Another source of inspiration is mud therapy, with its unique sensation of being wrapped and immersed in black mud, blurring the line between my body and the material. Mud baths and applications have been used for medical treatment for centuries and are known throughout the world. Earth and grounding are traditionally associated with feminine power, intuitive knowledge of how to preserve and multiply energy. Sanatorium life and natural healing also include sunbathing, which allows you to paint relaxed human bodies in the sunlight. A story about visual and sensory experience, touch, interaction with matter—living earth, water, layers of the past, as well as the warmth and light of the sun, using the language and expression of painting. Through visual and sensory images, I try to create a feeling that we are part of a common substance and existence.

Agnija Ģermane's multi-layered painting style is characterized by natural plasticity, textured drawing, and expressive painterly movement. Her experience in plein air painting and large canvases created in her studio create a breathing, light-filled color palette and an illusion of movement. She paints landscapes and figurative compositions, seeking to discover emotional content in recognizable forms of nature, filling them with vibrant energy and her own history.
