Meat Factory, directed by Inga Fontez-Sakurako
The dance performance Meat Factory, based on Jaroslav Melnik's novel Masha, or Post-Fascism, depicts a post-fascist society and raises issues that are relevant in light of 21st-century geopolitical events, when humanistic values are increasingly being forgotten.
The performance is rich in analysis of the preconditions for fascism in a society dominated by propaganda and lies. It highlights the reasons for the loss of humanity when personal well-being is threatened and morality becomes ambiguous. The creative team at Meat Factory explores themes of humanity, freedom, and responsibility, questioning the ideas of humanism and post-humanism when economic interests become more important than human ones in a capitalist system.
When do things that are beyond comprehension become the norm? What is the anatomy of cruelty? Why are we capable of treating other people or animals in a brutal manner? What is humanity? Can love save us?
This interdisciplinary performance combines electronic music and contemporary dance with elements of flamenco and butoh. Visual physical theater with intense action on stage, typical of performance art, stands out for its atmosphere created by sound, light, and cinematic video projections, minimalist set design, and props.
Important: the performance uses intense light and sound installations, which may affect people with epilepsy and those who are sensitive to such stimuli.
