Klaipėda Youth Theater: play "Waiting for Godot" (directed by P. Pinigis)

15 October 2024 19:00

Waiting for Godot is a play by the Klaipėda Youth Theater based on Samuel Beckett's famous absurdist play. The only thing that is truly clear in this Beckett story is waiting. The main characters, Vladimir and Estragon, are waiting for Mr. Godot, whom they want to ask some fundamental questions and request something very important. However, the wait is so long that Vladimir and Estragon eventually forget what they are waiting for and why. While waiting for salvation, they realize that they don't know what they want to be saved from, who the savior is, or what salvation looks like. But waiting becomes the only hope for the characters in the play to live, even though the meaninglessness of waiting turns into a tragicomic farce.

The performance takes place in an undefined, dreamlike space. Here, time has no "borders" – there is no beginning or end, it is unclear whether time is moving forward or backward, whether it has stopped or is spinning in circles. This uncertainty of time and space further reinforces the absurdity of waiting, but thanks to it, the audience enters the surreal world of the play, where Vladimir and Estragon wander alongside them, waiting for Godot's answers.
