Klaipėda Youth Theater: children's play "OPA! Operation: Recycled Me!"

17 November 2024 12:00

An educational play for children aged 5 and up, or a journey through waste.

Educational play for children Ecology is becoming an integral part of our everyday lives and thinking, and in the KJT play "OPA! (Operation: Recycled Me!)", ecological ideas are also making their way onto the children's theater stage.

The plot of this educational play for children revolves around five pieces of trash that are no longer needed by anyone: a battery, a bag, a magazine, a jar, and a lemon. Although they have all been thrown away, some in a landfill, some by a river, and some in a forest, the pieces of trash feel that their lives are not over yet. Naive but determined, the pieces of trash in the play OPA! (Operation: Recycle Me!) set out to find their destiny – it is unclear whether they will find what they are looking for, what trials they will have to endure, and what awaits them at the end of their journey.

The actors of the Klaipėda Youth Theater not only seek to introduce the audience to playful characters, but also explore the themes of ecology and waste sorting in the play. Is everything we carelessly throw away really worthless? Do we throw it away in the right place? Do we know what impact simple rubbish has on the environment and on ourselves?

The creators of the performance, together with the audience, will try to find answers to these and other questions. The playful theatrical and musical form of the performance is a way to do this, and the cheerful trash characters are our companions in this operation.
