Klaipėda Youth Theater: “A-Ū,” a play for babies (directed by E. Šimelionė)
Premiere – “A-Ū!”, a musical performance for babies
The musical performance for babies, “A-Ū!”, is an experiential journey through the theater for the youngest audience members (6–24 months). The show invites parents and their little ones to immerse themselves in the gentle atmosphere of the forest: meet a fox, a bird, a hedgehog, and mysterious fireflies; listen to their songs; and discover how the forest changes from day to night.
The performance is designed to stimulate all of a baby’s senses—hearing, sight, and touch—encourage the expression of emotions, strengthen the bond between parents and children, and foster their first encounter with the theater. It is a safe, cozy, and aesthetically pleasing first introduction to the performing arts.
The music for the performance is composed by Gytis Šimelionis, and the program also features live performances of classical pieces—Edvard Grieg’s “Morning” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.”
“Early artistic experiences, participation in cultural activities with the family, the quality of artistic events attended, and attendance habits formed in childhood continue into adulthood and become a driving force for adults to engage in the arts and culture” (Elsley, McMellon 2010: 19–20).
