Binkis did not save or economize his youth, those springtime hundreds bulging in his pockets, but squandered them in all directions, pulling them out of his stomach, "letting his soul fly away on the wind, in all four directions," wrote Julius Greimas.

K. Binkis wanted to write an appealing and understandable play for young people. Therefore, while writing Atžalynas, he consulted with his children. All four children were already in high school and advised their father on how to create playful and lively dialogues.
"When writing this work, I cheated the theater a little in the sense that the work was aimed at young people, whose age range is very broad – from about 12 to 60 years old and older." (Kazys Binkis)

Today, it makes sense to return to certain things that still embody the spirit of values.

At the center of Kazys Binkis's 1938 novel Atžalyno is a young man who has been wrongfully accused. Even when he is despised, he does not renounce his values and continues to believe in life and other people. This is a lively, compelling drama, imbued with the optimism and willingness to sacrifice that characterized interwar Lithuania—values that are so lacking today.

Atžalynas is a great opportunity to rediscover classic Lithuanian drama.

"The offspring are growing, teacher! They are growing… Beautiful offspring are growing!" There is a certain radiance behind the words spoken in this work.
