On September 6 at 6 p.m., the 1st Klaipėda Biennial will continue at the Klaipėda Culture Factory (Hall C), Bangų g. 5A, with a dance performance by artist Aske Thiberg, "Place of Being" (2025).

Askė Thibergo presents a 20-30 minute dance performance based on minimalist, repetitive digital melodies intertwined with recordings from public online sound libraries. The work is inspired by Locking, a dance style that emerged in the 1970s alongside funk music.

In this performance, the indifferent facial expression and repetition of movement and sound blur the line between human and machine. The audible loop signals that initiate each gesture raise the question of whether the artist is responding to the music or whether the music itself controls the body, turning it into an automated avatar.

Aske Thiberg (born 1994) is a Swedish visual artist based in Copenhagen. In 2023, he obtained a master's degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He has staged performances and participated in exhibitions at institutions such as the Düsseldorf Art Association, Den Frie Center for Contemporary Art in Copenhagen, O-Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, and Malmö Art Museum.

On September 6, at 6 PM, at Klaipėda Culture Factory (C hall), Bangų g. 5A, the 1st Klaipėda Biennial is moving forward and you will see a dance performance by artist Aske Thilberg, called "Whereabouts" (2025).

Aske Thiberg presents a 20–30-minute dance performance set to minimalist, repetitive digital melodies interspersed with recordings from online public sound libraries. The work draws heavily on Locking – a dance style that emerged in the 1970s alongside funk music. In this performance, the dancer’s indifferent facial expression, paired with repetitive movements and sounds, begins to blur the boundary between human and machine. The looping sonic signals that trigger each gesture raise the question of whether the artist is reacting to the music or if the music itself is controlling the body, turning it into an automated avatar.

Aske Thiberg (b. 1994) is a Copenhagen-based Swedish visual artist who received an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Arts in 2023. Thiberg has exhibited and performed at art institutions such as the Dusseldorf Kunstverein, Den Frie Contemporary Art Centre in Copenhagen, O-Overgaden Institute for Contemporary Art in Copenhagen, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, and Malmö Art Museum.
