Klaipėda Youth Theater: PREMIERE! "I Pretend to Be Asleep" (dir. G. Grinevičiūtė)

28 November 2026 18:00

When do we say “NO,” and when do we stay silent? And why is it sometimes easier to pretend we’re asleep than to admit what really happened?

“𝐀𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐮, 𝐤𝐚𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐠𝐮”—a new premiere by the Klaipėda Youth Theater, directed by 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐜̌𝐢𝐮̄𝐭𝐞̇𝐬.

The play explores familiar situations—ones we’ve heard about or witnessed many times—in which the boundaries become blurred, leaving more questions than answers.

By exploring themes of physicality, sexuality, and personal boundaries, the performance turns its attention to situations in which we unknowingly cross another person’s boundaries, fail to recognize our own, or cannot find a way to clearly say “no.” And sometimes—to apologize. Situations in which silence can be a form of self-protection, fear, or a convenient way to avoid responsibility. In which, consciously or unconsciously, we choose to pretend we’re asleep. That we don’t see, don’t hear, don’t understand. That nothing happened.

“𝐀𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐮, 𝐤𝐚𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐠𝐮” does not seek unambiguous answers or culprits. Rather, it invites us to examine the complex relationships between people and ask: what happens when we pretend to be asleep for so long that we eventually can’t wake up anymore?
