“Machinima” is a portmanteau of the words “machine,” “cinema,” and “animation” that describes films created from video game footage. Artist Isabelle Arvers introduces this still-underappreciated medium, which is transforming our relationship with animated cinema.
Together with the collective “Futurs Ancestraux,” she creates experimental films in Benin, in which 3D scans of sacred sites, voodoo artifacts, and documentary footage merge into hybrid spaces that blend the ancestral and digital worlds.
Together with Lívia Diniz, she organizes the “Beyond Green Games” creative workshops, during which participants collaborate to create films based on images, sounds, and other recordings of the natural environment.
